This thread title and post aren't what I responded too. I responded to original question that you quickly changed. I've never tried the MTD nickel strings, but based on your original post they are an option worth trying.

I have a set of Carvin 6 string nickels on my Ibanez SR506. Nice strings; La Bella makes them. Tapered B, flexible and warm.

I continue to find Fodera's offerings my favorite....great tone, balance, long life, and decent price. I get all my strings from www.juststrings.com. I've tried all the major brands, and go back to the Fodera nickels...

Aloha, Garey

I love the Foderas, both their SS and their nickel. A little pricey, but the service is great, and they've done custom sets for me with no upcharge.

I do a lot of my string experimentation with D'Addario XL and Pro Steel due to being able to leverage their published string data, and actually like them quite a bit for what I am doing and with my basses, but I have to say that Labella's tapercore B strings (like the .128) seem to be made for my particular 34"-scale basses.

But Knuckle Guitar Works (Skip, are you reading?) is one to watch for. The prototype set I've been testing is perfect for my approach and the B0 and F#0 both are the best I've ever used. I hope these go into production soon! You can read a little more about these toward the end of the fEarful thread in my sig.

well,

bought the mtd nickels.

i'm pretty sure i tried them on a 4 string jj mtd, but the winding ends were in silver cloth. at least i think i did cause they were fairly smooth feeling, and in the past, the steel mtd strings have literally shredded my fingers.

i bought a set of the d'addario tapercore nickels to compare them to. i'll post back later.
