Fender 7150 Original Bass Nickel Rounds - Amazing!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been going for a vintage tone on my SX SJB-62CT 3TS. At first I tried D'Addario XLs, and even after about 6 months, there was still a little too much zing. Next, I took the GHS Flats off my P Bass and put them on the SX, but I didn't like the feel and I was getting this weird "clack." About a month ago, I ordered some Fender 7150ML, and now they have settled in and are great. Hardly any string noise, lots of deep bass, warm midrange, and a subdued high-end. My tone is very vintage sounding, but I am starting to think I like dead rounds better that flats. Anyone else feel this way?

I really like Fender strings. I know the "cool" thing to do when you buy a new Fender is to ditch the strings, but I don't.

Strung up my 62 AVRI P bass with a set of 7150's last night. First set I've tried. Looking forward to see how they break in.

My Fender came with these strings on it... I have to say, I really like them! There's something about the way the high and low end are handled that makes for a classic tone.

Yea i said it before on here i like dead rounds (nickel) alot sometimes over flats. I like them if they keep their mids and still stay dead and thumpy...very old school sounding on a P bass. But thats me and as much as i like it my bandleader complains he cant hear my D and G strings when i play fills or walks on them? I hear them and sware those strings get lost in the guitar tones for him.
I have tryed EQing my amp and now went away from 7150s which i loved to TI power rounds for more zing and mids. The gig that we did last weekend i felt the TI's were very solid on the low mids very punchy and clear but the high mids were really not much better then the 7150's. It was only one gig and i havent had them on for more then a week we shall see. 7150's are great strings...cheap too.

I was thinking of trying those strings. I got a P bass coming soon too. Maybe when it needs a string change i'll try those.

My 7150's are in the mail. Can't wait to put them on my recently acquired '62RI MIJ Jazz. I'm usually a flats kind of guy, TI's on my ASAT and Fender flats on my MIJ Precision but from what I've been reading these should be perfect for the Jazz.

TH 7150's are amazing strings, but i loved them when they were new and zingy, but now they're just like flats, but rougher. I was aware they'd deaden out, but now there is like no top left. Actually, it's good they died, i use the bass for trad jazz, and it really help to have flats or dead strings. On a T-bird, with the tone rolled off on the back p-up, i've got a fretless bass.

I am a big fan of flats and dead rounds, too. I have a 1976 p bass with 10 year old rotosound rounds and an ARI '70s fender jazz with flats. I prefer the sound of the flats. It's close, though.
