Fender 7250s in 5 String Flavor

Sign in to disble this ad
I love 7250s on my P bass and am looking to try a set on my Sadowsky five string. How's the B on these things? I see the 7250-5M set has a 125 B and the 7250-6M has a 130 B. Anyone have any experience with these sets. I usually use the 7250MLs.

The 7250-5M set came standard on my Squier Affinity Jazz V. As far as rounds go, they sound great! If the Sadowsky is string-through, try the 8250's instead (tapered B and E). So yeah, great strings! MUCH better than the Ernie Ball Slinkies I had on that bass. Good luck!

I have used 7250s on several of my basses. I currently use the light set on both of my fives (.40-.115), and I have use the 7250-5M set as well. They are long lasting and sound really great. It's the only roundwound set I continue to use except for one bass with SIT short scale strings. All the rest have flats.
I have had no problem with using them on basses with body through strings with 34 inch scales.

I am stringing thru bridge as is the only option on a Sadowsky. I believe the long tapers on the 8250s could cause the warble problem because they are a long taper meant to go thru body.

My RV5 seems to be real picky on B strings. The HRS and the Sadowsky Black steel are the only B strings this bass really sounds great with. But for what I am doing I am looking for that Fat, warm, but still have some punch and articulation. Sadowsky Blues do well, but I need to change them out pretty quick as the E and B seem to lose their focus. And my cheap experiment with the Carvins is not going so well. There strings are a bit harsh. Not very warm. They sound like the lows are emphasized with a little bit of mid range scoop. Not what I am looking for.

I loved the 5 string set on my old Fender Jazz V. Now I use the 6 string set on my Axcelerator 6 and I love them there, too. Fantasticly tight B string, but the Ax is 35" so that may have something to do with it.

Did you get good B string focus on the Fender V?
