Fender 8250 5M When they stopped making the "old" 8250's I bought a bunch because I don't like the new 8250's (they don't fit right, the taper is too close to the ball end and they feel and sound different). Any suggestions and what I can use to get that old 8250 sound and feel? I play a 2008 MIA Standard Jazz 5 and I like to string through the HM bridge. I was thinking Sunbeams, but they are not tappered. The Dunlops are not tappered either. The old 8250's were round core and lasted a long time, they had a sweet midrange that I just can't find any nickel plated strings that match the specs. |
Well I played a gig with the "new" 8250's (light blue wrapping as opposed to the old drey wrapping). The new 8250's are crap (maybe I just need to get used to themy), they sound terrible. The bass response seems thin and they have more top end than the old 8250's. I had to boost the bottom end to the point of almost "boomines" to get any bottom, and because of that my mids sucked. I hated it, and I had to play a whole gig that way. I am going to try sunbeams and run the B and E through the "L" side of the bridge as opposed to through the body (unless I can find a good set of nickel plated taper cores). |
