Fender 9050 Flats or LaBella Jamerson's?

Sign in to disble this ad
HI,

Anyway, the tone I've come to appreciate has, for me, been most strongly associated with LaBella DTB mids. Particularly the E and A strings; D and G are a little "ringy" for my taste and not particularly balanced with the bottom strings. I'm thinking of trying Fender Stainless Flats (9050M) mediums, just to see how they sound on my custom-spec Warmoth neck and body with Villex passive pups. This bass tends to have a very hard, lively attack, eternal sustain, with an up-front, detailed character. I need very warm, thumpy strings across the fretboard to balance the tone. My band plays acoustic blues and old-school country.
The 9050M set has significantly heavier diameter in the D and G than what I have now with the LaBella 760FM.
Anyone have a suggestion about a set that should have greater balance (more thump in the D and G)?
Thanks
Bill

Haven't tried either of these strings but Ive heard that the Fenders are very thumpy sounding and dark sounding although i have not tried these strings so cannot say for sure, although I am hoping to try both at some point as I am after a darker sounding string than the EB flats I am currently using
