Fender 9050L Flats (95-45) - How is the tension on these

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondering how the tension is on these flats , ive heard good things about Fender flats but heard bad things about them being very high tension. How is the tension on these , Im after something with no more tension than the 100-45 set of chromes but with more thump , will these fit the bill?

Yes. That gauge is pretty close to the 45-100 Chromes. Maybe a little more tension, especially at first. The tension is part of the thump, I think.

Fender flats take the longest, ime, to loosen up and break in. I would guess a lot of players quit on them. Once they finally do break in, you're set far a long time.

With flats I tend to lower the action a bit more than with rounds. For me, the tension is far less noticeable the less distance I have to go to fret them.

Do all flats take time to loosen up? I am new to flats.

9050 L are my current strings, the tension is a tiny little bit higher than .45 Chromes, overall nothing to be afraid of. I like Fender flats much more because they don't tend to be as "sticky" under my fingers as Chromes do.
The Chromes' shiny polished surface is, sure, pretty to look. But I prefer ugly but smooth feeling and comfortable 9050
