I think I used to use the lighter gauge, they were very stiff on my 50's P-Bass, even though they were lights. So the ML is going to be even stiffer. They had great tone though, I thought they were good strings and they are easier to find than some of the other flats.

I have Fender 9050MLs on my 51 reissue P-bass and 9050Ms on my CC 55 reissue. Great flats, but very stiff.

yep, same here, I used them on my Jazz a long time ago but I did not like the tension they were putting on the neck. They felt pretty good to the fingers and sound huge.

Yeah I wouldn't put them on my Jazz either, too much tension. But on a thick necked single coil P-bass they'll be fine and kick like a mule!

I have the lights on my P, the tension isnt bad at all for flats, I would recommend these over the medium lights any day.

They came stock on my fretless Jazz bass. I couldn't get them off soon enough. As others have stated, they are SUPER stiff (like bridge cables).

Stiffness isn't bad -- unless they're too stiff for your taste. Definitely try them out if you want. A lot of people like them, but I think what all the comments are getting at is: if you don't like high tension strings, the 9050s will probably not be what you want.

+1

And just to add that not all basses handle high tension strings well.

I have 9050ML's on my CS 64 J-bass,and the neck handles them just fine. I like these strings allot. I tried Thomasticks and hated the low tension so I'm biased towards higher tension I suppose, and these strings are just right for me. From the research I have done these strings are actually considered a medium tension compared to say Labellas James Jamerson set. I also have a set of 9050M's on a 51 RI, and those seem a little to stiff at times. I'm not that crazy about the 9050M's, but that could be because the basses have different neck dimensions as well as the different string gauges.

Yes, the green silks, and the lights really do sound great.

I've had Fender 9050MLs on my P for a couple of years now, and I love them. They've gotten really warm and mellow with time, and I've gotten so used to the higher tension that I have a hard time playing with strings with less tension. I'm thinking that when the time comes to switch strings I might go to the La Bella Jamersons. For me, the higher the tension the better!

Be careful with the Labella Jamerson set as they have been known to warp many P-bass necks.
