Fender Nylon Tapewounds 9120

Just got these last night and installed them on my Dean ABG FL.

They sound great, nice thump of a URB and great sound on the fretless board. They really turned the sound of my cheapo bass around. The tension is a lot higher than anything else I've ever played, but I guess that is just the nature of the beast.

I would recommend these to anyone with a ABG.

It may not be. I can't speak for Tapes, & can't think of a manufacturer of Tapes that will tell you the tension, but I know the myth about Flats having high tension is a crock.

I have them on my 96 Precision Fretless. Very interesting set of strings. I have used both Fender and Labella tapes on my ABG (Carvin AC40 fretless) and they sounded good. I am having a hankerin' to try out the new GHS ones now.

As far as I know, the Fenders are the only ones that are roundwounds underneath the tape.

Best thing about these strings are you never have to change......

I have a ABG with black tapewounds on the bass for about 15 years.

they feel oh so nice. if i still had a fretless i would rock these. frets tend to eat them up.

i just put a set of status-graphite tapewounds on my sx and the tension is really nice, bout the same as you'd find on a medium (105) set of rounds i guess. def. less than the chromes i had on it before. they're also 105/85/65/45 instead of the usually huge tapes you get

I adore these strings on my franken-bass PJ fretless. I wish they would release them in 6 string sets because I like them better than the LaBella nylon tapewounds on my 6 string fretles.

Note: Fender has another set called "Nylon Filament Tapewound 7120s". Those feel like rubber bands and I abhor them.

Can I get an "A-Men" Brother!

they are much brighter too......had them on my Am P Dlx for two days. Replaced them a year ago with 9120's

I have 9120s on my Jag X 3 yrs and have had them on my PJ Copy and acoustic Bass.

the only problem I have run into is that in some basses, you get ground buzz because you never actually ground - due to tehm being insulated.

I have never tried the Labellas or any other black nylon wrapped strings to compare, but really like the feel, sound and look.

For the girth of these strings, they have very low tension. I think these strings also have quite a bit of high mids to them. I always wondered why they weren't more popular.

I moved away from them but may come back...

I have the Fender Nylon Tapewounds on my Sonata ABG as well.... IMO a big step up from phosphor bronze roundwounds. I used either Martin or D'Addario ABG bronze strings but they always sounded a bit too zingy, and wend they wore out just sounded dead and flat. The tapewounds are gnarly- sound great and look good too.

As for the Nylon Filament Roundwounds, I tried a set many moons ago on my Yamaha electric, and if I remember right, I liked them quite a bit. If I cranked the neck pickup, I could get a sound I found rather tasty.

I put those strings on my fretless P-special clone (one P pickup, one J pickup) - definitely gave it a different sound from anything else I own. I like 'em!

I have them on a fretless P-J bass too, and I adore them in that context. Mine has a maple board.

Yeah - the PJ Copy is a SX (Eearly model with the odd large headstock).......

I replaced the pups with early 70's Fender Lace Sensors from a Hot Rod P Bass. It is a great bass. They sound FANTASTIC on it!

Um... The Lace Sensor pickups weren't even invented till the late 80s.

They are early, whateer year they are.....they are Fender Lace Sensor.......(labeled)

Sorry if it was wrong, but its not a big deal.....Thanks for correcting me on that.

I've tried the Fenders on a Ric and now on my Ibanez P/J fretless and would some one tell me how the LaBella's compare?
