Just got these last night and installed them on my Dean ABG FL.
They sound great, nice thump of a URB and great sound on the fretless board. They really turned the sound of my cheapo bass around. The tension is a lot higher than anything else I've ever played, but I guess that is just the nature of the beast.
I would recommend these to anyone with a ABG. |

I have used both Fender and Labella tapes on my ABG (Carvin AC40 fretless) and they sounded good. I am having a hankerin' to try out the new GHS ones now.
As far as I know, the Fenders are the only ones that are roundwounds underneath the tape. |

I have a ABG with black tapewounds on the bass for about 15 years. |

Note: Fender has another set called "Nylon Filament Tapewound 7120s". Those feel like rubber bands and I abhor them. |

they are much brighter too......had them on my Am P Dlx for two days. Replaced them a year ago with 9120's
I have 9120s on my Jag X 3 yrs and have had them on my PJ Copy and acoustic Bass.
the only problem I have run into is that in some basses, you get ground buzz because you never actually ground - due to tehm being insulated.
I have never tried the Labellas or any other black nylon wrapped strings to compare, but really like the feel, sound and look. |

For the girth of these strings, they have very low tension. I think these strings also have quite a bit of high mids to them. I always wondered why they weren't more popular.
I moved away from them but may come back...

I used either Martin or D'Addario ABG bronze strings but they always sounded a bit too zingy, and wend they wore out just sounded dead and flat. The tapewounds are gnarly- sound great and look good too.
As for the Nylon Filament Roundwounds, I tried a set many moons ago on my Yamaha electric, and if I remember right, I liked them quite a bit. If I cranked the neck pickup, I could get a sound I found rather tasty.

I replaced the pups with early 70's Fender Lace Sensors from a Hot Rod P Bass. It is a great bass. They sound FANTASTIC on it! |
