I have not used the Fender tapes, but I used LaBella tapewounds for reggae for a couple of years, and they were great. I've used them on both four and five string fretlesses, and put them on a fretted four string that I built and sold. They are somewhat brighter than many flats, but still have nice thump.

I've been using TI's for a few years now, but would definitely try the tapes again for reggae.

I have a 2x15 that sounds awesome with tapes; serious reggae fatness.
