Everybody forgets that Fender bought the V. M. Squier company, one of the original companies that invented modern wound round strings, in 1965.
Look closely: different color, different width of ribbon outer wrap, the wrap is wound the opposite direction, and if you have good equipment you can tell the sonic characteristics when new are quite different: Chromes: top end zing; Fenders: mid growl.
How many times do we need to say it: FENDER FLATS ARE *NOT* CHROMES!!!
If, and only if, there is anything in common, it may be that most string makers get their raw wire from Mapes.
