Fender strings

I've never tried Fender Strings, but, in the never-ending quest for tone, I figured I'd give them a go. Any thoughts on the "Original" 7150 nickel strings? I'm using a Squire VM Pbass with slightly dead Earnie Balls. I like a warm, vintage-y tone (all tube for me!) when playing fingerstle, but need something with a bit of bite for rock pickstyle. Any thoughts?

PS Do Fender strings have silk wrapping at the ends? That looks great!

The 7150s will definitely give you a warm, vintage sound. Great strings. They last a long time, too.

If I recall, they have yellow silk at both ends.

I think you will really like the Original Nickels. Though a little "warmer" in sound than most strings, they still have a punch, and are easy on your fingers and frets. They would make a great set for fretless basses as well.

The only Fender strings that I've tried and not liked are the "nylon filament tapewound" strings. All other Fender strings that I've tried including whatever came OEM on two Fender basses have been very nice. Personally my favorites are the nylon tapewound (not to be confused with the nylon filament tapewound) and the "Super Bass" nickel-plated steel roundwound.

I really liked the 7150s and the 7250s. The 7150s do have a warmer sound, for sure. The 7250s have a really great roundwound sound, they're my favorite rounds, and they're cheap.

Right now I'm experimenting with Chromes (flats). So far... meh...

7250Ls are my favorite string of all time. I have tried them all and keep coming back to these. I just love the way they feel.

I like the Fender 7150's. I like the Fender 7250's more. The only strings I like better than those are DR Sunbeams - also warm, vintage-sounding nickel roundwounds.

9050L, my favorite flats!

Tried 9050M set once - greeeeat sound but very high tension, I had more callouses than from my upright!
I would not recommend these for slim necked basses (Jazz...)

I have the 9050ML on my P-Bass. A good compromise, more tension than the L's but not as much as the M's. Great sound and feel, too!

I've tried the Fender nickels but prefer the Fender 8250M Super Bass Strings (8255 for non string through the body). Not the pure nickel you mentioned but the the best of both worlds in my opinion. You can always tone down the extra zing--but you can't make it appear if it's not there and you want it. I don't think you can go wrong with the 8255s.

To complicate things, I also like SIT Power Wound and their Taper Wound. SITs seem to have a little more solid middle tone wise, and do have a smoother feel. A great and under-appreciated string IMO.

Sunbeams are great, but for the price the Fenders get the edge!

7150 Med Lights on my Fender Am Dlx active Jazz 4 and Mike Lull MV4. Great sounding strings, warm, nice old-school grunt, they keep their feel and tone a decently long time (2-3 months of steady gigging and rehearsal for me), and don't cost an arm and a leg. Also a very consistent product from set to set. What more could you ask for ??

Of course, the modest cost of the Fender strings helps me justify the seriously costly TI Jazz rounds and Accousticores I use on my Turner ren 4 fretelss and Lakland 44-02 dlx fretless respectively

I just went back to Fender strings 7150s since they are easy to find and at a good cost. My band leader keeps saying he cant hear me any time i run off the E or A strings. We play old and new country and some light rock folks not metal I was running 6-7 month old Chromes which i loved but they lacked the spark to be heard i guess?

I might go to the other Fenders on my other P bass the brighter nickel round 7250s? I think?

I took my P to practice a 50's reissue and i liked the brightness of it and the strings felt great for rounds. They very smooth and crisp. I did notice i was not hearing my self as well in the upper register since they were bright and ran into the guitars octive ranges more. They might take a bit of tweeking EQ wise. Nice warm but bright strings.Chomes were way more thumpy for sure.

For all you guys that use the 9050L's, how's the tension?
Can anyone say how the tension of the Fender 9050L set compares with LaBella 760FL set. I currently use the LaBella 760FL, but I'm craving just a little bit more tension (mainly on the E), but I'd also like to go with a smaller diameter E string. I'm thinking that the Fender 9050L just might do the trick. Any thoughts?
