The 7150s are good alternative if I run out of Sunbeams.
Also, the Fender Nylon Flatwound are good, too. Don't get put off by their large dia., they are very playable strings (low tension)with personality. Tried them on my P bass and fretless, and very happy with them. |

Found a guy who put Fender Tapewounds on one, paid him a visit and played his 2008 USA 62 RI and was BLOWN AWAY. I was never a big fan of the Jazz Bass Fender tone, as I play mostly MTD and Musicman but wow - what a unique, warm, fat sound. They're the closest thing I played to Roto Trubass 88 strings - which I didn't want because I didn't want to have to modify the nut on my bass to handle the huge gauge - the Fender gauges are slightly smaller - enough to work in an unmodified Fender nut.
If you play them fingerstyle they have got to be the warmest thing aside from your significant other... and with a pick you can really get some of those luscious "Herbie Flowers" tones!
I loved it so much I ran back to the music store, ordered my USA 62 RI and bought a pack of Fender tapewounds to put on it.
I just got an email today that my bass is in - I'm absolutely excited - and I feel the tapewounds make the Fender Jazz Bass a very special instrument! |

I don't think you can go wrong with the 8255s.
... IMO. | +1 for the 8250s - I'd never tried them until I got my Jazz 24. I think they're the best value around. |

Will either be good for slap tone?I have only played stainless.Or would the 7250 be the one?I gotta buy some today.

I switched back to 9050ML... mostly due to sound and feel. the L sounds good but the ML have more oumph! |

My favorites are the Nylon Tapewounds and the 7250s. The original nickel sets are good, nice and warm in their sound.
The ones I didn't care for are the nylon filiment (what are they good for?), the flats (too much tension) and the body thru sets (die quickly). |

Has anyone tried the 8250's on regular bridges? Are they too long before the wrap begins on the E & A strings? |

Right now I'm experimenting with Chromes (flats). So far... meh... | Which type would you say produces more of a Paul Jackson tone like he had in the 70s "Headhunters" style? 7250 or 7150? I have 7250s now... thanks |

They are usually only $16.95 a set from MF, or juststrings. Not bad pricewise.
Hope that helps |

I once snapped a brand new D'addario XL G string, because I put it on the bass-all other strings were off of it-and started to tune to pitch. Not too long before it snapped. Originally, I thought the string was probably bad. Then I realized, it was quite dumb to do that. Thats a lot of tension to put on one string-especially a G string. He may have done the same thing with his, who knows?
I've had no problems at all with my 7350's, and I've never gotten a bad one out of a pack. Give'em a shot, I think you'll like them |
