Fender strings? Roundcore or Hex?

Sign in to disble this ad
What I've been seeing the only set that's roundcore is the 8250 series? Is this correct?
edit
While on the topic. How are the fender round strings tension wise as compared to say D'addario or Sunbeams?

You would be correct on the 8250s, at least as far as I know. The rest are hex cored. I usually play .40-.100 strings in any of their series. From what I remember The D'Addarios I have played were usually a little higher tensioned than Fender roundwound strings of the same type and gauge.

I run the 8250m set on my P bass and like them a lot. A bit heavier than Mediums, with a .110 E. If you have a through-body option they are very nice. Moderate tension.

How would they compare tension wise to Sunbeams? The 7250's should be higher tension correct?

Don't quote me, but they feel about the same to me, tension wise.
Feel wise they are different. Sunbeams feel very smooth and slippery(to me), where the Fenders have a bit of a gritty feel. Not sticky, just a little gritty. Doesn't bother me.
I don't run Sunbeams on the P because I like the .110 tapered string. I sometimes detune it to D, and it works better for that than a 100 or 105.

Yessir. Can't say how much exactly, but you'd notice it.
