Finally found a use for my DR Lowriders

I've never been able to get proper intonation with these strings. Always bummed me out. Then I searched some threads here on tapered core, 34" versus 35" scale, etc. Turns out my Hipshot top-load setup on my custom 35" didn't create enough distance between the ball and the bridge saddle, and a significant portion of the taper was sticking out over the DC bridge pickup. Don't know if that was the cause of all the bad-funky harmonic-y, partial-y sounds, but the intonation was shot.

Then I found a thread talking about getting the actual taper point (where the string gets smaller) on the saddle, and that doing this has solved problems in the past. I tried it on my Ibanez (back-loading), and it ended up perfectly seating the tapering on the saddle. It took about 8 minutes to adjust the setup and intonation, and the bass rocks. It was a good, solid, day-to-day bass before, but now it has some funk (the good kind).

The end of my anecdote.
