Finally got some flats

I ordered some D'Addario Chrome 45-100 and slapped (pun intended) them on my Ibanez GSR 200 today. Pretty nice strings. I was sort of expecting more of a wow difference in tone from rounds. There is a difference, of course, but it could possibly just sound like I turned the tone down. If I turn the tone up, it could probably pass for roundwounds. Same with a pick or slapping. Nice tone though, and they feel smooth and sexy on my fingers.

Yeah aren't they great? I had a set of Chromes on my GSR200 which are now on my Fender BG-31 ABG. The GSR200 is strung w/ Ernie Ball Slinkys and is for sale, but that's another story. Flats really are great on those basses though! I also just put a set of Chromes on my new Squier Affinity Jazz V and I love it SO much!! I can't even play Rounds anymore! Thump on!!

P.S Those Chromes won't stay bright forever. Wait for 2-3 weeks and they'll mellow out yet still have the perfect amount of treble and midrange. They're my favorite string by far!!!!

Different strokes I guess. I throw them away after 3 to 4 weeks because by then they start to sound like butt on my custom archtop fretless. Admittedly, it's very picky about strings and the D 'Addarios have so far been the "best". The Thomastiks sound much better but are way too light for me. I'm hoping the new DR flat wound Highbeams will be a winner but I don't think they've shipped yet. Anybody beta tested them?

I can't wait to hear them after 2-3 weeks. Good string but I'm not in a hurry to switch to flats on my P-bass. Putting the flats on the GSR 200 was sort of an experiment. With the P-bass you can just turn the tone all the way down and get that lovely thump.

Recently made the switch to flats and have been pleasantly surprised. The strings take a while to break in and maintain a lively edge, although not as pronounced as the rotos for a reasonable length of time. I am impressed with them and like the slinky feel too.
