All I have to say is that these things are BRIGHT! Wow...I was not expecting this...This was my first time changing strings in my 3 years of playing bass and I must admit that I am a dead string kind of guy... I'm not putting my Jbass down until these puppies lose their zing...
Not a fan of DR Hi Beams... curious ones, beware

| | | I recently got a set of hi beams for for christmas, and Im LOVING them
At the moment, im into Rocco Prestia from tower of power (he uses no treble, and fingermutes), and strangely I like these strings much better than the dead EB super slinkies they replaced.

I'll stick with Elixirs.

I tried the Low Riders on there and wasnt too thrilled with them either. I'm trying some D'Add. Half Rounds on it right know and they suit me for classic rock really well.

At first theyre too trebly, but really clear, if you tap theyre great. Even tuning down to bfbe on my thumb 4, a little clakity but still clear and growly. I have sunbeams on my acoustic 5 string and they brought the thing to life, sounds great now. On my streamer 5, ive tried both the nickle lowriders which sound awesome right now, just put them on. i think theyre more of a rock, blues, jazz type string where as, the steel ones are nice tight and focused, heavier type or more slap. Also black beauties and blue peacocks, theyre pretty for a lil bit but i think they sound great for down tuning also. The Hi-Beams or the lowriders i think are most versitle. just my .02 |

Originally Posted by headtrip762 just give them some time tp break in, I think youll be impressed. | I'm trying...I'm not too worried anymore, because I thought we might be having a show this week, so I was very scared. They feel good I guess, but I would love for a tighter string (less wobbly), so I dont think that I will be sticking with Hi-Beams as my go to string...I really tend to dig pretty hard when I play, especially with a band, so I love strings that don't bang around and smack the frets all over the place. Would Lo-riders be a good string for me? Or is there something else that people like for this?
My band is a pop-punk, alternative band. We are playing songs by Paramore, Matchbox 20, Audioslave, and the like. I love the bass lines by the likes of Tim Commerford(think Be Yourself and Bullet in your Head), Sting (anything Police really), Peter Cetera(think Dialogue), and Flea (think Snow and Dani California). I'm looking for that all-around great bass tone that has depth but yet will sparkle if I play up high. I really want to be very versatile and be able to play anything on one set of strings, because I like to attempt (and I emphasize ATTEMPT) to play jazz stuff like Jaco, and then go right into something a bit more in your face like RATM.
Give me some suggestions please
