I recently bought this bass
The bass has two knobs for volume and two knobs for tone. I play songs like: Rodhouse blues, sunshine of your love, one after the 909, le grange, etc...
I was wondering what strings buy for it, I want a classy sound but I can't stand that flat wound strings almost don't have sustain and sometimes due to the amps they don't have presence (flat lovers please don't kill me), also a luthier, friend of mine, advised me to buy round wound strings because the sound that the bass brings (due to its shape) is enough to make it sound classy.
What advises do you have for me? Any other kind of strings or anything?
Pressurewounds? Sustain is more a function of the instrument rather than the strings, until the strings go completely dead. That may have happened to you. But don't completely give up on flats. Some of the newer flats, like Chromes and LaBellas, have top end zing; Fenders and Ernie Balls have midrange growl, the Fenders a little moreso; and other newer flats have different characteristics.
It's not the shape, it's the fact that it is semi-hollow that give it character.
Good looking bass.
Can you describe how "classy" sounds to you?
