Hello to forum, I'm writing for the first time on "string forum" and I would like to ask what's the difference between the Flatwood strings and the common strings?
Also which strings are ideal for pure rock sound?

At one time flatwound strings were the common string and all you could get on a bass. So, for early rock they were the rock sound. These days what's called rock is all over the map for bass sounds and a lot of guys like the brighter sound of roundwound strings.

Really, just go out and try some basses with flatwounds and see what you think.

I won't play on anything other than the one brand of flatwound strings I use, after 45 years of playing a lot of different strings. But that's me and the sound I prefer.

Flatwounds' outer layer, or 'wrap', are flat. Round wounds outer wraps are round wire. Rounds generally are brighter & more piano-like where flats are more thumpy/thuddy & lean towards an upright bass' tone.
