Flat advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been using Ernie Ball Roundwounds since I started playing, but I would like to experiment with some flats. I have a Squier VM Jazz and P and am wondering which one I should put the flats on. My Jazz probably gets played about 70% of the time so I was leaning towards leaving rounds on it and putting the flats on the P.

I realize that its mostly personal preference, but I was hoping someone could tell me if the flats would be better on one or the other.

Also, the flats I am putting on are the same gauge as the rounds I use. Does this mean I shouldn't have to worry about a setup?

There is no "right" answer, although flats are more often associated with the "P" sound. My preference is for D'Addario Chromes, which are brighter than some other flats.

My favorite flats are the Lakland Joe Osborn stainless steel flats. I'd put them on the P-Bass.
