Flat rounds or round wounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
ive got a yamaha bb1500a and am looking to get new string for it, my question is should i choose flat wounds or roundwounds, i know ben kenney uses flatwounds and im looking for that sort of tone, playing alot of rock and funk stuff my question is though would flatwounds still be good for bass solo's (harmonics etc) like some jaco stuff. As i dont know much about flat wounds some help woudl be much appreciated thanks

Well, Jaco's tone is pretty much based on the idea of roundwounds on a fretless Jazz, with a marine epoxy coating on the fingerboard (so as to prevent the rounds from chewing it up). Different world altogether from Ben's flats-on-a-fretted-Jazz sound.

Sounds like you need two basses
