Why won't a 34" scale 5 set of flats work here? |

Are they their Long scale? Are you stringing through-body? |

The picture shows the strings bridge-mounted, not through body. From the photo I don't think it possible to mount strings through-body.
SCALE length is the 'speaking length' of an open string; between the nut & bridge saddle.
Required STRING length needs the broadest winding to be on the tuner side of the nut & has to take into account the portion of string on the securing side (non-speaking side) of the bridge.
Just checked some Chromes of mine. Ibanez SR has about 3/4" of bare string on the tuner side of the nut then the silking starts. Those are Long length. It looks like the Medium lengths I have on my Viola would have the silking be in the nut.
Silking can be removed so it clears the nut, & I would. But wait for more informed opinions on that before doing so. You DEFINITELY want the windings to step down (get smaller in diameter) on the tuner side of the nut.
I also suspect your intonation is off. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
