Flat Wounds For A Rogue Violin Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Just recently bought this bass, but I am having difficulty finding flats for it. My local music store has some, but according to him, he'd have to cut off some of the threaded part of each string, and he'd have to cut off so much to keep from wrapping too much string atound the nut, that the cuts would enter into the strings themselves. (Hope I am explaining this correctly).

So if you have this type bass (31"), could you recommend a set of flats for me?

Thanks

I don't have this type of bass but Labella does a set of flatwounds for the Hofner Violin bass , these should fit your bass

So which model number strings would that be? They only list 2 for the Beatle bass and neither state medium.

Thanks for helping a newbie

The .39-.96 set, extra light is what Paul was supposed to have played. I have them on my Hofner Icon and they are very responsive. The .50-.100 set is a bit heavier. Both will fit and they are medium. Try the Big City String website, https://plus22.safe-order.net/bigcitystrings/shop/ They have them listed as medium and helped me decide over the phone.

I put a set of Fender 9050ML flats on my Rogue Viola and they fit (and sound) great. Nice tight thump, not too thick or thin.

You're going to love that bass by the way! One of the best sounding basses I've played, great action, fit and finish, etc. and all for just $199!!

They are also the right length, as (also noted in other posts) due to the tailpiece on this bass, it uses medium-scale strings like a 31 or 32.

Switched Set

After reading this thread, I switched from the .50-.100 set to the .39-.96 set and it made a very nice difference with my bass. The .100 bass just didn't sound right.
