I have a Dean Edge 6 fretless, and though I don't have it with me right now, I believe it has a 35" scale according to reviews of the fretted version - but I need flats for it, since it's a fretless. I bought a set of extra long scale string by Indie from Rondo, but while some of the strings fit, the lower B ended up being TOO long, and when winding it, it ended up cracking the actual string windings, and I had to re-apply the lower B I had just taken off.
So, I want a nice set of 6 string flats. I heard the Thomastik-Infields were great, and would last a while, but I saw that there's only regular scale on the sixers. Is there a set of flats I could use for this bass that will work with the scale length? Will the regular scale strings fit?
The TI's I'm looking at are for 34" scale, but can't be too careful, you know?

DRs, elixir, and many standard long scale strings fit.
strings are alway longer than what you need, so you almost always have to cut them.
I had only problem with the d'addarios, the low b wounding ends at half the nut.. but it's not a problem, I have that b on bass right now.

I bought a Lakland 55-94, which is a 35" scale bass, and it came with an extra set. I wasn't interested in putting them on that bass so I threw the "B" string away and put the rest of them on my old P-Bass and they sounded great.

If flats are what you need, I use GHS precision flatwound sets because they fit everything up to 36 inch scales in the same set. You can get the B as a seperate item, and I believe the C as well.
If not, see what BPstrings.com has. Bob is good at finding sets for hard to fit basses, even if it means getting other brands he doesn't carry to do it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
