Flats for 51 P bass

Sign in to disble this ad
What flatwound strings are long enough for the string-through body of my 51 P Bass?

I bought a set of Chromes but the E string taper ends up below the nut.

I'd ask someone at Guitar Center for extra long strings, if there is such a thing.

steve harris flats work just fine on mine. Had to peel back some of the felt, but otherwise fine.

You need to get your Chromes in Super Longs... They're what my '51 wears and they are perfect for me...

The '51 Reissue needs strings even longer than is needed for regular through-the-body basses, because that body is really thick.

IME, these will all fit:
Super long Chromes
GHS Precision Flats
The Rotosound sets fit, but it's really close.
DR Flats
Fender flats

D'Addarios are the shortest "long scale" strings out there, in my experience.

TI-364 Flats for 36" scale basses.

They should be plenty long enough...

La Bella HRS Flats (standard) long scales work, too.
Stay on my bass since two years. I remember, for one of the four strings, I had to pull off some of the red coloured clothing (about 1/4 of an inch) with a razors knife to have the string fit in the nut.

Ernie Ball group 1 flatwound (2802) are great on mine.

These hardly ever get a mention on the 'Flats' threads here, but they are great and quite low tension - the group 1's are 110 guage.

The standard length TI Flats (JF344) are long enough for '51 Ps.

Yes they are and were my first choice when i bought my 51. I had allot of neck issues with this bass and TIs didnt help. When i finally got it stable (neck) the TIs just didnt feel or sound right on that bass. I changed the bridge to a standard Fender and put on a set of Medium Chromes. I like them much better and now that bass sings great.

I used GHS Precision Flats on mine when it had flats (usually strung with rounds) and it sounded great. No longer have the bass though.
