If unplug i don't think you will get any big sound when jamming.
If you play via a amp then you will have no problem, flats on acoustic means deep and warm sound.

Do they sound just fine... yep, I think so. And on to the reason that flats have a place on acoustic bass guitar... no finger string noise, which is a very, very big plus... at least for me. |

I use ernie ball lights for electric on it now it gives me a cool twang for country pickin but lookin for smoother jam band feel. any suggestions on types of strings? |

One of these days I'll have to sit down with a bunch of 1/2 upright, 1/4 upright and cello strings and figure that out as an alternative... guh |

I picked up an Ovation CC074 A/E bass, removed the original rounds and put a set of Thomastik Jazz Flats on it, and it sounds and feels amazing. I gig it amplified every week, and it cuts with both a pick and fingers. Nothiong but raves about the tone. |

how's the unplugged tone/volume? |

Doesn't project all that well unplugged, but plugged in it was very warm, very mellow sounding. Easy to play, and no string noise. |
