Question Flats on an Active Jazz 5

Sign in to disble this ad
I know this sounds like an oxymoron but does anyone use flats on a Jazz Deluxe?
Im thinking of putting a set of Chromes on mine. Do they sound good on an active jazz, or do they defeat the purpose of a jazz bass? HELP!

Im a fingerstyle guy, I can't slap for sh!t. Im wondering what they sound like tonewise? How the mids would sound especially. I know the bottom will be very prominent. Im not sure about boosting the treble with them though.
Somebody out there in bass land has to have this set-up.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

I have flats on an active (custom) Jazz-type bass, and it's not an oxymoron at all, tone-wise. Flats do not have to have excessive low-end - Steve Harris from Iron Maiden uses them, and his tone cuts through very well. The key is eq - tweak the highs & mids and you're OK. I can easily get more crispy highs & clanking mids than I want. I just choose not to.

How are they with the mids boosted at the 500k range?
