Flats with a bigger gauge?

Sign in to disble this ad
I tried a few types of flats at a local music store, but most of them didnt quite have the tension i'd want in a string.

And I like bigger gauges (probably why they seemed not very tight)

I've looked everywhere and Places like Ernie Ball, etc. have tons of custom gauges but nothing over 130 for a B

I really like 135 or even 140 for a B for that extra tension.

I'm currently using DR Lo-Riders (not flats, i know) But they're too low tension for me. (45-130)

Anyone know where I could get 50-70-90-110-135 (or 140) Steel Flats?

Have you tried the Rotosound RS77 Jazz strings?
They're heavy gauge and the tension is super tight.

If it's tension you want, get the Fender flats and add a D'Addario or LaBella B to the set. Fender doesn't make a 5 string flatwound set...

If you get too big with the B, it will lose it's tone. Tough to find a good flat wound medium to high tension B string, anyway...

I use a hybrid D'Addario set- the .050 heavy Chromes, with an added B.

The 5 string versions are a medium gauge, anyway to get the thick + a single B from roto?

also:

For the .50 set chromes + a B, is it a chromes B? if so.. hows the tension on it?

ty for the replies so far :]

and while we're on tension - hows the tension on TruBass nylonwraps by roto? id love to try some but like i said i cant stand low tension strings and ever other nylon ive used (havent tried rotos) are too low tension for me

I do the same thing. I don't really like light gauges, i dig in too much.
