Flats on broken (repaired) headstock

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

Just taken in a 77 Firebird with a neck break which has been repaired. By all accounts the repair is solid (I have only seen pics).

I normally use LaBella Jamerson Flats on my P-Bass. Would the high tension of these strings cause problems on a bass with a repaired headstock?

Is there a different set (of flats) that I should be considering?

If the repair is a good one, it might actually be stronger than the original.

I guess so - I am still waiting for the bass to arrive.

I just decided to go with standard medium gauge LaBella's for the time being but may change to the Jamersons at a later time.

I had a Washburn AB 20 acoustic on long term loan from a guitarist friend of mine. The neck and snapped at the headstock but had been repaired. When I got it, it had normal ABG bronze strings and frankly sounded less that good. I put a set of flats on it and the bass totally came to life. It's been nearly 5 years and they and the bass are still going strong.

Sadly I moved away, and returned the bass to the guitarist owner. He sends me updates and pictures of the one that got away...
