flats or coated for ' 78 frettles p-bas neck?

I've got a '78 frettles Pbass neck with a brass nut on a jazz body and a warmouth hi mass bridge. It's my FrankenFretless.
Currently I'm using Diadario Flat wound chromes on it, and I just don't like the sound anymore on it too many harmonics not enough fundamental and not enough thump for me.
Anybody have a good suggestion in what direction I should go with trying something new, I like a more woody sounding frettless, not so active sounding
