I think a Hendrix tribute band would be the most difficult thing to do. Who do you please? The people who've only heard the studio cuts or the people who have heard live recordings? Do you keep it simple and replicate Hendrix's 1968-69 live set or do you try and capture the album sounds?

If you listen to the end of Wild Thing from Monterey (where Jimi is trashing his strat) you hear Noel run up and down blues scales with a really trebly tone that suggests roundwounds to me.

Was he using plectrum or fingers?

Resurrecting this to add some stuff. I think that I started this thread.
I have played off and on in a Hendrix cover band for years now. We try to play studio stuff note for note like the album. BOG stuff and other live covers have more room to jam.
I use a sunburst jazz bass when I play the Hendrix stuff. I used to have a full Marshall stack, but there are hardly any venues left where that works.
I would rock the 'fro if anyone ever asked me to! Thanks to the nice comments. I had forgotten about this thread for a bit.
