Flats on fretted

Haven't tried flats yet except on my double bass. I'm kinda curious on how it'll play on a fretted will it sound just like an old dead roundwound set or a total disaster with buzzes all over the fingerboard? I wanna try using flats on my fretted jazz but I'm kinda worried of the results. What do you guys think? Is it perfectly ok to use it on a fretted bass?

Yep. It's a classic sound. In fact, up until sometime in the 70's, flats were your only option. A fretted P-bass with flats is the quintessential old-school R&B/Motown sound. A jazz with flats is also quite common!

Actually rounds have been around since the early 60's, but like rjny said flats are the vintage sound for sure. You can get pretty aggressive with them too depending on how you play and what your gear setup is ... just listen to Steve Harris.
