Flats for fullscale Danelectro

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Danelectro Shorthorn reissue, from the 90s apparently, currently strung with the same old dead roundwounds it had on it when I got it a few years ago. I decided I want to buy a set of flats to fit this bass. I tried putting some D'Addario Chromes I had laying around on it and the strings are too thick to fit through the bridge. I'm not sure of the gauge but they were either .105 or .100. So I am wondering if anyone knows what size flatwound strings on the market will fit a 34" scale Danelectro bass. I know La Bella makes Danelectro bass strings that are very light, but based on what I can tell they are short scale. I was thinking about trying some light gauge Chromes...any ideas?

A set of GHS Precision flats (.45-.95) would do the trick if you wanted to stick to lighter gauges. I'd imagine the Chromes in the same gauge would be good as well.

I have a set of TI flats on a Dano DC Bass and it sounds great.

Your local repair person could probably modify that bridge to accommodate those Chromes. Good luck!

The holes in both the bridge and tuning pegs can be enlarged with the appropriate sized metal drill bit. This is not an uncommon issue, as those holes tend to be pretty narrow.

I used D'Addario Chrome Shorts and had to drill out the bridge holes... Five minutes with a drill press, hours and hours of phenomenal tone
