Chromes Custom Light guage all the way! i use them on a Jag bass which has similar pickup spacing, I play aggressive rock with fingers, slap, and pick. gives me exactly what I need.
what I really love is being able to go from a really thumpy precussive rhythm when singing to a full bore grind when other songs sections come in.
As far as the neck goes - that why I recommended the custom lights. the D and G strings are lighter lessening the over all tension and lending more of an even feel.
