Flats on a Geddy just ain't right.

I had a set of Chromes on my Geddy Jazz bass for a month or so; They're great strings, but something about them just didn't sit right with that bass.

SO...I put Slinkys back on the Geddy, slapped the Chromes on my other Jazz bass (on which I'm going to see if I can't break Phil Chen's record) and all is right with the world.

Well, better to try than to wonder.

(FWIW the Chromes are working out pretty well for me on my Nash J-bass so far.)

I was using Chromes for a couple months but I had to go back to rounds. Love dead flats but never got along with their feel so I just use rounds now.

I had flats on my Geddy for years..loved them..sounded awesome. It's basically a 72 reissue which back in the day would of had flats on it from the factory.

I put chromes on my SX p/j, love the tone, feel, and tension. I will be putting a set on my SR5, I can't wait.

Just curious ... does your other Jazz have a rosewood fretboard?

I have chromes on my '09 P-Bass and '08 Jazz. Both have rosewood finger boards and I'm in love with the Chromes.

My 50's P Classic has a maple fretboard, and I have nickel roundwounds on that one. Chromes weren't giving me the same love on that bass!

I love Chromes on a rosewood Jazz, but not on my Geddy. Between the pups and the maple board I feel like it was just meant for some bright rounds.

I have the original rounds on my 2000 MIM J-bass. Dead rounds aren't a bad way to go for us dead string fans.

Hmmm ...

I went from DR Sunbeams to Chromes ... love the Sunbeams, the Chromes didn't do it for me ... But TI flats DO!

... No Geddy Lee signature on this one though, 73 was a little before they did that IIRC.

I've used all those strings on my GL, and yeah the TI's rock! I wish I could get a heavier gauge set of them, but the tone is awesome.

That's the exact conclusion I came to. For me, I think it had something to do with the skinny neck as well.
