Trust me, after a while, you won't pay it any attention. Really shouldn't be looking up there while playing anyway! Let us know how you like those Detroit Flats.

Got DR Flats and I'm having issues with dead E string. If you look elsewhere you would find that this is not isolated issue. Therefore I'd scratch DR off my list for sure.

Like them? I love them!

Here's my impressions from the week or so I've had them on:

First off: in my limited experience with flats, these are by far the smoothest I've encountered. I can barely see the windings and they feel fantastic both in terms of texture and the tension, which is about on par with tension I was used to with my regular gauge Chromes - not too tight, not too loose, easy to set up for low action (I didn't even have to tweak the truss rod when switching from the factory strings).

Sound-wise, they're exactly what I was looking for: classic flatwound tone; deep and punchy, with thump to spare and a nice little bit of low mid growl. The high end is nothing like the "almost dead rounds" top end of Chromes. Instead, I'd liken the highs of the Detroit Flats to a nice woody "plunk". That being said, I've found the G to be a little thin sounding at times, but setting up the bass has seemed to alleviate that somewhat, and I expect it to settle down even more as the strings break in.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with these strings, especially at $20 shipped.

As a side note: buying these strings was kind of a crap-shoot for me since I was on a tight budget and couldn't find much info on them, so if anybody sees this and has any more questions about them, just PM me and I'll try to answer as best I can.

I know they're pricey, but I love my RotoSound Jazz 77s on my Squier fretless jazz. Santa was good to me... they aren't dead at all. And the silk lined up perfectly fine on the E. But that's because they're long scale, not extra long scale. Can't find them in extra long for my MTD. I'd say give the RotoSound 88s a shot.
