Sign in to disble this ad
ive had a set of flats on for a couple of weeks and they keep dropping out of tune. last time i checked they had dropped a whole step out of tune but i had to leave the bass in my car for a couple hours i dont think its the tuners because they were not slipping on the rounds i had on there before. what should i do

Don't leave your bass in the car.

Temperature and humidity swings will do that to a bass, flats or rounds.

All strings take some time to stop stretching after they are new. Also, if these flats have much higher tension than the previous rounds, they may be bowing the neck, so check for that. Also check to see you don't have too many winds around the tuning peg.

strings slipping

It is also possible that the flats are slipping on the tuners more than the roundwound strings did.

thats pretty weird. i wind my flats all the way around the tunning peg, i dont cut them to short at all. im actually suprised how well flats hold tunning once they are broken in.

Keep it out of the car. It's the worst place you can keep a bass. Flatwounds once broken in stay in tune better than rounds.

Can you really have too many winds around the tuning post? The more winds the better the string is held down in the nut. Is this noit correct The only string I cut off is my E the rest I just wind and it sounds fine with no slipping and no buzz.
