Flats and half-wounds - one set each - which bass?

Quick question. I have two basses, one MIA Jazz (with frets) and one quite heavily modded Squier VM Jazz Fretless.

About three weeks ago, I ordered a set of D'Addario Chromes (flatwound, EBC81) and a set of D'Addario halfwounds (ENR72) and headed overseas. I'm back and they're sitting on the table awaiting further instructions...

Problem is, I've forgotten which bass I had planned to put each set on. So I thought I'd put the question to TB. The objective is to experiment with flatwounds/halfwounds and see whether I might make the move.

So - put the flats on the fretted bass and the halfwounds on the fretless? Or vice-versa (flats on the fretless, halfwounds on the fretted)?

Sincerely waiting in anticipation of your thoughts on this one...

Once I progressed from Halfs to Chromes there was no looking back. I'd say try to swap the Halfs for a second set of Chromes. Back when I had a fretless, I always used halfs only because I didn't get into flats into my fretless was sold.

What, in your opinion, was the problem with Halfwounds? Still too bright? Stringing noise?

Thanks!

I like the growl & mwah that you get with half-rounds on a fretless.

A Hung jury... 50-50! I spoke with the helpful guys at Rudy's where I bought the fretted. He unhesitatingly suggested flats on the fretless, halfwounds on the other.
And so it shall be. Will report the results in due course.
Thanks to all.
