Flats or halfrounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hopefully this hasn't been answered before.

I've pretty much narrowed down my choices between flats or halfrounds. I haven't seen much comparison between these two so I'm hoping someone can chime in. Here's a rundown of my style for a better recomendation.

Band I'm in is a kindof experiment metalcore band. 1 guitar, drummer and keyboard/singer/screamer. Do a lot of techy fast parts and some grooving slow parts and everything in between. I play with a pick for the punch and attack but eq out as much pick noise as possible. I'll switch to fingers sometimes for certain parts where it's necesary. We play in drop c and I play a spector 4 string through a bbm, xciter and hartke attack ->B2R and Ampeg 1540.

What I want is to hold the low and low mid range, mellow sound but strong presence, if that makes sense. I want to have that low sound but still retain note defenition so it won't be all muddy during fast parts. Kindof a mix between BTBAM and Mastodon.

People seem to swear by flats to hold the right sonic space and people say they are great with picks, but the halfrounds seem more like I'm looking for, just don't seem to hear much about them.

so what do you think? Halfs or Flats?
