Flats for a Harmony H-22?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got an old Harmony hollowbody in the post. It's a fabulous sounding bass, ridiculously fat but still tight bottom, and lots of middy character and a surprising amout of high end clarity, very defined and even bright with the rounds on it now. I'm sure I could find a set of rounds that are perfectly marched for it, but I'd really like to put a set of thumpy flats on her.

Does anyone know if regular short scale flats fit these basses properly? I like LaBellas a lot, and would also consider Chromes here. I'm even considering LaBella tapes- they probably sing on a bass like this.

Any experiences, about string lengths, tones, etc are welcome, especially from those who own this actual bass- it has an unique tone and my experience with strings is fairly wide, but is mostly in relation to Ps and Js.

Never mind, I found out they take long scale strings.

Slapped some Chromes i had lying around (still new sounding) and they sound perfect for this bass. i had to trim some silk from the ball end side of the E to pass through the hole in the bridge plate, and I'll have to file the rosewood bridge a bit or go to a lower gauge to seat the strings properly, but they sound huge and real nice now, like big gobs of pure tone, the attack is so different from most modern basses.
