Flats, like Labellas, for 5-string ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I like Labella flats for 4-string, but when it comes to 5-string sets, I've found the Labells B-strings inconsistent with the rest of the set (in sound and in looks too, suggesting they're manufactured differently). The B's are just lifeless, no punch.

So can anyone recommend me flats like Labellas, but are known to have good 5-string sets ?

Thanks, Andy

I've been very impressed with the way the LaBella tapered 128 flat sounds alongside 760FLs. You have to be really careful on install not to twist it, but it sounds big and fat on my bass. I think that B is better than the TI flats, which are the only other set I've tried. Sadowskys might be worth a shot.

So far I like the Chromes 50-105 set with their B string (.130?), although I don't like their standard 5 string set. I am also trying out the RS77 Rotosound five string set and I am optimistic so far.

Is the roto tapered B or full thickness wound?

The Roto B is not tapered.

The Labella's low B works well for me. you have to be careful to not twist it when you install them. And some basses can't reproduce the massive low end of a flat low B.
