Flats on a MM - What works best?

Sign in to disble this ad
Wanted to experiment with some flats on my Stingray (5 string fretted) to see if I can darken up the bass a lot. Looking for a really deep, thick, dark tone. Not too concerned with crystal clear definition. I've used La Bella black nylon tape wounds on my Fender Jazz V and it sounds (and feels) good, but I don't really want to regroove the nut on my Stingray just to fit the La Bella's if there are better choices.
Anybody out there ever try TI Jazz Flats or D'Addario Chrome Flats on a stingray (single MM PU)?
Is either one of them brighter or mellower than the La Bella's?

Ditto on the EB flats. They sound great on my SR5HH.
