Flats are great on a modern active PUP bass

Hey Madmanbass,
I just put a set of D Addario Chromes(switched from DR Lowriders) on my graphite necked five string bass with bartolini PUP's and active pre.
I love the sound and feel. It will change the sound quite a bit. It will give you more thump, more pure bottom end, less top end sizzle. I would say try them and see if you like them.

Got TI flats on my active fretless 5-string. It's growl-tastic. As a matter of fact, it's the one axe of mine that gets people to actually remark about the tone.

I own a Schecter bass, wich I love, and i'm seriously thinkin bout flating him, for a change. But, any ideas of how the sound might change? It's a basic emg-hz passive pup¡s with active dual band eq.

Its common to put flats on high-powered G&Ls, but only if you want to blast MASSIVE groove vibes at your audience.

I use Deep Talkers on my L2000 and can force people up to three miles away to get down with their funky selves.

That's exactly the anwer I was looking for. Guess I'll try some. Besides the famed D'addario Chromes, wich are impossible to find in this south side of the world, would you recommend T-I jazz flats for a modern active beast?

I use nothing but flats on my fretless Kubicki (D'Addario Chromes) and its sounds fantastic. I still get a huge variety of tonal options, they feel great under my fingers, and my fingerboard looks as good as new.

I also use them (Status flats, in this case) periodically on my fretted Steinberger XL2A which, although 25 years old, is about as modern as a bass gets (all graphite with active EMGs and an HAZ Labs preamp). It is as punchy and percussive as all get out, especially with a pick. It is not as versatile as when I have it strung with rounds, but when it sounds right, it sounds amazing and not quite like anything else.

If you want to develop your own sound and not just sound like everyone else, it might be something you should try to see if you can make it work.
