Flats on my Rick

Sign in to disble this ad
Started jamming with a guitarist who is into classic rock. Beatles, Allman Bros',...typical guitar-fanfare. I want to string up my Rick with some flats. Any recommendations?

I kind of have that Paul McCartney-Wings-Silly Love Songs sound stuck in my head.

For that McCartney sound, I would suggest La Bella, GHS, or maybe Pyramid flats. Break them in well, front pickup, and there you have it.

I have never heard Chromes on a Ric to my knowledge, but I would think that would be awesome. Crisp for flats. but forgiving as well.

I recall reading an interview where it said Macca used to use Maxima flatwounds but since they were discontinued he moved onto Thomasticks as they sounded most similar. So maybe a set of TI's will get you the sound you want.

I've heard that but I just don't hear much TI in McCartney's sound. It's much fuller, and not as middy as TIs usually give you.

All in the EQ, I suppose.

Tapes on a Rick sound great... .. if you're just testing.. GHS are the thinnest diameter I"ve been able to find.

I play 60s bubblegum format.. passive basses.. tapes.. and high-fi direct stuff to the board.

GHS

I've got GHS Precision flats on mine. 45-105. They sound very nice. I put some TI's on for an hour or so. They sounded nice too but not as full as the GHS strings.
