Which flats for my Warwick Fretless?
I have a fretless Warwick Standard corvette 4 string and the strings have been on for quite a while so I am looking for a new set to put on them. I also use a bg250 TcElectronic amp which is naturally bright. I am looking for a smooth deep tone where the d and g string arent too bright while the e and a are not too bassey.
Here is my bands recordings and through the pre amp of the person who recorded us gave me the perfect tone. So if anyone has any flatwound strings which sound like this please let me know.
Thomastik Infeld and LaBella Tape Wound
Very nice recording and compositions!
When I got my Corvette fretless I treated myself to a set of Thomastik Infeld flatwounds. They are indeed expensive but I think pretty outstanding - versatile in tone, allow a good deal of expressiveness and (it says it on the package and it's true) "supple feel".
Also, I have LaBella tape wounds on a Peavey fretted and they're surprisingly lively strings and more versatile than you might expect. The A and E do put out a lot of low end but you can dial that down with technique and EQ.
A friend uses half-wounds which might be a nice middle of the road solution.
Here's a sample of the Thomastiks on the Corvette:
