+1 the Roto tapes are good for that too. I like La Bella tapes, but then again I like my strings high-tens.

... and.... reading some of the later responses to the thread, I might try tapes on my Squier '51 P. I've never tried them before.

The reason I reccommend D'Addario Tapes so strongly is because they are standard-gauge 50-105. That way, people who just want to give tapewounds a try don't have to alter the nut at all.

To each their own!

I've tried many flats. I'd go with the TI Jazz flats.

I was joking....partly. My jazz teacher in high school 20 years ago had me try flats once. At the time I didn't even know they still made them. Had heard of them but that's as far as my knowledge went. Put 'em on and completely didn't expect the sound that came out of the amp. Deader than death itself. Now, I'm sure they have their place and many, many people prefer them and actually like them, I was just reading through this thread and it brought back all these bad memories of that fateful day.

To the OP: I would recommend Pyramids.

Delicious feel, mellow '60s sound, less mid-forward than TI's, less thunky than Jamersons. Just all-round sweet. My faves.

I'd say go for d'addario tapewounds. I have them on a fretless p and they are a dream to play on and the tone is mellos but quite nice. You definitely want to avoid rotosound 77s even though I love them and swear by them because they are the opposite of what you are looking for.

I know Chromes are thought of as pretty bright, but once broken in they are really very creamy.

DAdarrio half rounds might do the trick for you. They are "Semi Flats" They are brighter than normal flats, but are also smoother and quieter than round wounds.

I'll let you know when my 12+ year old TI Jazz Flats go dead.

Get a set of LaBella 760FL. They aren't like the Jamerson set.

Or the 760FX set, which is quite close to the TI Jazz Flats in slinkiness.

Just get Labella flats in a lighter guage, or Sadowsky. I don't think you will like TI or D'Addario flats, they will be too bright for you. GHS flats will be too thumpy.
