Flats on a Peavey T-40...?

Sign in to disble this ad
This t-40 that I have now doesn't have the bottom end that my 1st one has (which is kinda odd)... so I'm thinkin' of puttin' flats on her. Change the style up a good bit. Currently I'm using GHS boomers.

I'm wondering, has anyone put flats on a t-40 before? I was thinkin' of goin' w/TI Jazz Flats... but since they're not cheap by any means, I wanted to see what the general concensus was for having flats on a t-40.

Thanks.

Does the phase switch work correctly?

Of course it is a good idea.

I use TI Jazz flats on my T-40. It's really an excellent tone. I've got to have the phase and selector switches checked out (malfunctioning).

Flats are always a good idea (sometimes)

Except for some experimentation, I only use flats on the FL T-40. I prefer RS88's, but I think the choice has a lot more to do with style and technique then some inherent factor of the strings themselves.

On the fretted T-40 I go with the gig. Mostly Boomers, but Chromes work for me as well as 9050's and GHS 3050's. I like the sound of TI's, but can't afford to throw away $50 strings every month.

One of the neat things about the T-40's is that they can have an unmatched low-end punch. If your's isn't serving it up, it's time for a checkup.

it's not serving up compared to a t40 that's 5 years younger and very much different....

could just be my amp since I played the old t40 through a crate combo 15" and my new one I'm playing through a carvin combo 2x10....

in either event though, I'm just trying to get the essentials w/3 basses... a fretted, a fretless, and a 5 string... no particular order per-say, but one of the basses needs to have flats so I can have all sounds and tones almost handled between the 3. I see having more basses and not actually gigging or anything completely pointless for me.

Anyway, the phase switch does work b/c I had to replace it... I just haven't studied when it's in phase and outta phase, but I'll go w/the best sound anyway. I think I might get flats (when I get the money) for it... In the meantime, anyone else w/experience w/flats on a t40 I'm welcome to hear it. Thanks for the replies peeps.

I did a TB google search on the subject of Flats and T-40's and vaguely thought I made a thread discussing this... this was the first thread I found and then remembered I completely did make a thread that was about this!

In any event, since their has been a massive T-40 boom in the past year, anyone else have experience with flats on their T-40's? I want the thump but don't want to necessarily get another bass if I can avoid it...

A T-40 with Flats would have lows like an M-80! That is one huge bass with a lot of wood. Plus those pickups are super! Flats= Thunder + Boom. Rounds= Grind + Growl.
