Flats on a PJ

Anyone use flat wounds on a PJ setup? Can't say that I've experienced that combination.

Gasp...flats with PJ?

Flats are not pickup dependent.

sure! I'm a LaBella fan, and they work GREAT w/P/J, as with any other pickup config.

No but a PJ has somewhat of a unique sound. The post was about what people thought about that combo and who uses it. For example, I prefer flats with a P bass over my J bass. The combination just sound better to me. Gasp...dig?

I ran Chromes on my little GSR-200 for a while. Sounded good, I never got used to the tension, though.

Indeed. On my custom fanned fret PJ, I use the Fender 9050CL balanced set. Great tone, great sustain, great growl, absolutely consistent from string-to-string and up the neck. I've had them on there a year and have yet to change anything. Of course, I'm playing more DB rather than EB, so they don't get the wear they would have in the past, but they're great strings, almost like a subdued Roto growl. None of the chrome hollow thud. I had played round wounds for about 35 years from starting as a teenager, never finding a flat I liked. These are the strings that switched me from rounds to flats. I keep GHS Progressives rounds on my Rick 4002, but this one is going to be shod with these flats for the long haul.

Here's my custom fanned fret bass:

I have a G&L version of P/J and am using GHS precision flats.
Works great for blues SRV type band.

My favorite flats are TI. I love the mid content. I am thinking on a PJ setup that would give a nice variety of tones for a flat wound.
