Flats or Rounds for VT bass

Sign in to disble this ad
First off, I have been playing chromes for just over a year now...and love them. With that said, I picked up a tech 21 vt bass about a week ago and have been very impressed. The variety of tones this thing can produce is amazing...but it got me thinking. Are my fairly broken-in flats compromising the overall effect of this unit? I know this is subjective but I feel I need a bit more sizzle without cranking up the mids, character and gain.
Is this pedal best with flats or rounds?

I love my VT Bass pedal ! I like the B-15 setting with my flatwound strung Precision the best, really nails the Motown / Stax sounds. I used my VT at pratice this week set to Fat Tube with my Roundwound strung Precision in my Classic Rock band it sounded great. I think it sounds great with rounds or flats.

I used my VT with a G & L ASAT with TI flats, a P Bass with Fender flats and as of last night my MIJ Jazz with Fender 7150 rounds. Sounds great with all three although a little different between the flats and rounds. I really thought the sounds with the new 7150's was a compromise sound between the flats and DR Black Beauty rounds I have on another bass. The great thing I found with the VT pedal is the infinite tones you can get with it regardless of the strings or basses.
