Flats for Skyline Glaub

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought myself my first bass in God knows how many years (probably 3+) after playing exclusively with a short scale bass. I'm looking into getting into the blues scene up here and have a couple of auditions/bands lined up. So I'm thinking about flats for a couple of reasons:

a) I have girly man callouses right now after playing a short scale with very low tension rounds for so long. My pinky is actually unusaeble right now due to the friction caused by the cheap rounds that came with the bass (probably some kind of Fender stainless). It is bleeding a bit... But I'm used to that

b) P-basses NEED flats. That's a fact. They go togheter like apple pie and milk or sex and STDs.

c) I'll play blues with rock on the side. But we're talking old school rock classic rock here.

So I'm basically searching for flats that will not have a lot of tension (altough more than Tomastikcks is fine, I've used flats before), that can sound bright and punchy enough for the rock but warm and fat for the blues also. I very much like p-bass grit and mids also (Ampeg user and I run my GK with boost), so a flat that can compliment that overall tone is very welcomed.

Price is not really an issue, but cheaper is better. So playable, versatile for rock and blues and easy on the fingers. For a 4 banger naturally.

D'addario Chromes do that for me on a Fender Precision. I like the 100-45 set.

Chromes all the way for what you want.

Fenders or Labellas if you want old-school (but less rock-friendly).

Rock friendliness is an issue as even the blues bands I'm looking to join have more agressive numbers and I don't have a backup p-bass (yet ) so switching axes is not really something I'd consider.

Lakland Joe Osborn Flatwound strings will go perfect with that bass...
