Flats for a String-Thru P?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a string-through Sting Precision, and need some flats that are long enough not to have the nylon windings covering the nut. Any suggestions? I think any P-bass with flats would be similar.

I have a 51p resissue that strings through the bridge. I know DR flats are long enough because that what I have on there right now. I have tried GHS brite flats and D'Addario Chromes: one worked, the other was too short, but I can't remember which was which because it's been a couple years. I think the GHS were longer. I tried Fender flats once and they were too short.

On your '51, did you string through the body and bridge? I go through the ferrules on my Sting P. I'll give the DRs a try.

I just took a set of D'Addario Chromes off my string through body P Bass. I had to trim the silks back a little on them to keep them out of the nut.

It's a regular 34" scale P right? If that's the case, pretty much any flats should string through the body just fine. I have yet to encounter a brand that doesn't (with the exception of Chromes).

The GHS Precision Flats (45-105) work on Sting, and sound great. I had a set of TI flats on it too- I had to shave a bit of the silk off one string, but it was no problem.

How'd you like the GHS Brite-Flats? I haven't used those stings in about 22 years, but was wondering how they'd work on the Sting.

Thanks,

John

They say the Fender flats are like the Chromes. But the Fender strings do not allow silk to get over the saddle/nut.

TI Flats should do the trick.
